RowmateSee who's around you. Keep the connection.
Rowmate is the social network of the place you're in. A radar shows the people a few steps away, Places shows where it's happening right now — and it works even without internet.
- Free to download
- 18 and over
- 6 languages
Three taps and the room opens up
No endless feed. Just the people and the places that are really around you.
- 1
Turn your radar on
One big disc. ON, the people a few metres away can see you. OFF, nobody sees you and you see nobody.
- 2
See who's here
The people around you, the places nearby, and how many people are in each one right now.
- 3
Say hi
Send a connection request or a wave. When you both say yes, you're connected and you can chat.
The people around you, right now
Open Rowmate and see who's a few steps away: their nickname, what they do and what you have in common.
- One tap to be visible, one tap to go invisible
- The interests you share, shown on each profile
- Works even without internet: on a plane, in the metro, at a festival
Know where it's happening before you walk in
The bars, cafés, restaurants and clubs around you, each with the number of people who are there right now.
- From outside you see how many people are there, never who
- Tap “I'm going” to say you're on your way
- Search for a place nearby by its name
Walk in and join the conversation
Once you're really there, enter the place: you see who's present and you join its group chat.
- Only the people in the place can read and write
- Messages disappear after 6 hours
- Connect with someone present in one tap
Your city, by interests
Browse the profiles of the members in your city, filter by interests and send a wave to say you'd be glad to cross paths.
- Before you cross paths, a wave is all you can send
- When you're next to each other, Rowmate tells you and the chat unlocks
- Waves and requests arrive in real time: accept or decline

Questions, answered
Is Rowmate free?
Yes. Downloading Rowmate and seeing who's around you is free: radar, Places, place chats, Discover, waves and connection requests. Premium unlocks reading and replying to your private messages.
How can it work without internet?
Your phone spots the other Rowmate phones a few metres away by itself, with no network. That's why the radar keeps working on a plane, in the metro or in the middle of a festival. Places and Discover need a connection.
Who can see me?
The people a few metres away when your radar is on, the people present in a place you entered and, if “Visible in Discover” is on, the members of your city. Radar off, nobody sees you.
What is a wave?
A wave is a simple sign you send from Discover to say you'd be glad to cross paths. If the other person waves back, Rowmate tells you when you're next to each other, and the chat unlocks.
Why does Places ask for my location?
To list the bars, cafés, restaurants and clubs around you. Rowmate uses your location only while the app is open, never in the background.
Which languages does Rowmate speak?
English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Hebrew. Messages written in another language can be translated in the chat.
